Coffee urns are not only used for commercial purposes. You can show your relatives and friends how seriously you take your coffee brewing by buying a coffee urn. Specially crafted for the more organized planners of social events, the automatic temperature control feature keeps its contents warm for hours. As such, you can finish off the beverage preparation in the morning and spend the rest of the day sorting out all the other arrangements.
Equipped with large coffee filters, coffee urns make it easy to empty grounds out of the basket. This way, you avoid the trouble of having to buy filter paper. An urn also serves a dual purpose since it delivers hot water for tea and other warm drinks as well.
If you’re looking to host a large number of people, this is the right appliance for you! You also won’t have to feel shy going back for more since a coffee urn serves many at once. So, how do you actually use it? Here is a step-by-step guide for your reference.

Step 1: Remove the Lid
Make sure the coffee urn is unplugged. If it was plugged in, allow it to cool completely. Turn the coffee urn’s lid until it loosens and remove it.
Step 2: Lift out the Coffee Basket and Clean it
Reach inside the urn and lift out the coffee basket, along with the pole that it is sitting on. Throw away the coffee grounds and used filters, making sure the base of the urn is empty and clean. Wipe the inside of the appliance with paper towels if needed.
Step 3: Fill with Water
Determine how many cups of coffee you need. According to the quantity that you need, fill the base of the urn with the appropriate amount of water based on its indicator points.
Step 4: Insert Filter & Coffee
Insert the pole into the center well of the urn, carefully locking it into place at the base. Next, gently place the basket on top of the pole and line it with a filter paper. Fill the basket with the necessary amount of coffee. It is always recommended to consult the owner’s manual to figure out how much ground coffee to use.
Step 5: Reattach the Lid and Turn it On
Slide the lid into the top of the coffee urn, turning it to lock it into place. Switch on the urn, turn on the brew switch (if necessary), and allow the coffee to brew. Different models have differently styled indicators to let you know when brewing is complete.
Step 6: Serve Your Delicious Coffee!
Serve the coffee immediately. For best results, unplug the urn as soon as the brewing cycle is complete and remove the basket and pole as soon as it’s safe to do so.
A major plus of the urn is the low effort it requires, though it still maintains a fresh cup for you to enjoy. And if you find yourself the appointed coffee urn cleaner, you’ll have an easy job of it. Just remove the filter basket and pop the appliance into the dishwasher. Once everyone has left, you can simply detach the two-foot cord and store your appliance away.
