How to Get Rid of Coffee Jitters

What is more blissful than having a hot (or cold) cup of coffee before going to work every morning? Not surprisingly, the aroma and deliciousness of coffee is not the only reason that people love it. It can do wonders for your health as well. It not only energizes you, but it also helps prevent diseases like depression, stroke, and diabetes.

However, all that glitters is not gold. And that’s true for coffee, given the infamous problem of jitters that comes with drinking too much of it. Jitters are episodes of sudden urges to have coffee or consume caffeine.

How do you know you are experiencing coffee jitters? Common symptoms include anxiety, excessive sweating, dizziness, restlessness, etc.

Ways to Beat the Coffee Jitters

Getting rid of jitters is not as tough as you might think. There are many simple and easy steps to take when you feel uncomfortable after too many cups of coffee. Here are a few for your reference.

Vitamin C

When you’ve had too much caffeine, your body starts sending signals to your brain that you are vitamin C deficient. At this point, it is wise to introduce vitamin C back into your system. Fortunately, this is an easy task since vitamin C occurs naturally in many foods. All you have to do is munch on citrus fruits that contain loads of vitamin C. These include oranges, grapefruit, guava, and many more.

Hydrate

Consuming a lot of coffee can dehydrate you very quickly. Drinking lots of water will help you since water can neutralize the effects of caffeine in a short period of time. To avoid jitters, try having a cup of water with every cup of coffee you consume.

Workout

Low-intensity workouts will also help you get through your jitters. You can do activities like walking, stretching, jogging, etc. to work off the jitters. All these workouts can increase your metabolism in case you have exceeded your coffee limit for the day.

Relax

Relaxation is very underrated when it comes to keeping away coffee jitters. Try to take a nap or meditate when you are feeling uncomfortable. These activities can help you control the pace of your heartbeat and decrease the effects of caffeine.

Wait

The caffeine in your bloodstream will clear out in around 4-6 hours. If you feel you are anxious and your hands are shaking after having several cups of coffee, then you should wait for 1 hour or 45 minutes, which will give the effects time to pass. This option is suitable when you are caffeine sensitive.

Herbal Tea

Herbal tea contains certain chemical substances that help in overcoming the adverse effects of caffeine. It can also help in protecting your cells from oxidation and improve your digestion.

So, the simplest way to avoid jitters is to limit your daily consumption of caffeine. You can also opt for decaffeinated coffee or get darker roasted coffee beans which have lower levels of caffeine. It is advisable not to go beyond 3-4 cups of coffee in a day.
